Darrel L. Teter and Associates, Inc. has been providing quality care to the Denver metro area for over 30 years. As one of the most established private speech-language and audiology practices in the western United States, our staff strives to continue its excellence in service provision. Our philosophy is to provide you, the consumer, with personalized quality of care while maintaining the highest of ethical standards. Colorado is one of only three states that do not require licensure for speech-language pathologists.

All of our speech-language pathologists are nationally certified Master or Doctoral level clinicians. We do not employ speech-language pathology assistants or technicians in order to ensure the highest level of care for our patients.

  STAFF

Darrel L. Teter, Ph.D. has been providing services in the Denver metro area for over 40 years.  His practice has grown to become one of the larger privately-owned speech-language and hearing practices in the western United States.  He holds dual degrees in Speech-Language Pathology and in Audiology.  He received his Ph.D. from the University of Denver.  Dr. Teter is a former director of speech and audiology at Rose Memorial Hospital and Fitzsimmons General Army Hospital.  Dr. Teter served as an Adjunct Professor for the University of Colorado Department of Communication Disorders and was an Associate Professor for the Department of Otolaryngology, University of Colorado.  He lectures extensively throughout the country on many topics in the field of speech and audiology.  Dr. Teter has also served seven years on the executive board for the Colorado Speech-Language-Hearing Association.  He received the Recipient of Clinical Achievement Award for the State of Colorado (1987) and Honors of the Association.  He has numerous publications in the field of speech and audiology.

Jeff Steffen, M.A., CCC-SLP joined the practice in October 2000 as the Director of Speech.  He has been providing speech and language services in the Denver metro area since 1989.  Mr. Steffen earned his bachelor’s degree from the University of Maine at Orono and his master’s degree from the University of Colorado, Boulder.  He has lectured locally, nationally and internationally in the area of cleft lip and palate.  He is one of a few specialists in Colorado treating persons with cleft lip and palate.  Jeff has been a member of The Children’s Hospital Cleft Lip and Palate Team since 1993 and maintains membership in the American Cleft Palate Association.  Mr. Steffen has served five years on the Board of Directors for the Colorado Speech-Language-Hearing-Association and has been the active Vice-President for the Colorado Speech-Language-Hearing Foundation since 2005.  He is a recipient of The Children’s Hospital Leadership Award (1999).  His leadership skills will ensure that the highest quality of care will be provided for years to come.  Family, biking, fishing, golfing, skiing, camping and home brewing take up much of his free time.


 

Tammy Gentry, M.A.,CCC-SLP joined the practice as a part-time employee in 2002.  She received her Masters in Communication Disorders from the University of Wyoming.  Tammy has experience working with both adults and children.  In addition to working as a Speech-Language Pathologist, Tammy works as a Learning Specialist.  She has served three years on the Board of Directors with the Colorado-Speech-Language-Hearing Association.  Tammy shares her free time with her family.

Brianne Lay, M.A., CCC-SLP joined the practice as a full-time employee in 2005.  Brianne works at our Wheat Ridge Office.  She earned her Master of Arts in Communication Disorders from the University of Northern Colorado.  Prior to returning to the field, she worked in Douglas County Pre-schools treating children and families diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorders.  In her free time she enjoys hiking, golfing, concerts, and being with her French bulldog, Vera.


    • Stacey McConachie, M.A., CCC-SLP joined the practice as a part-time employee in 2006.  She remains on our payroll as a PRN employee to help meet scheduling needs.  She earned her Masters degree in Communication Disorders from the University of Minnesota, Duluth.  She also received a certificate for working with children diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorders.  In her free time she enjoys skiing, camping, musicals and being with family and friends.

Karen Duerk, M.A., CCC-SLP joined the practice as a part-time employee in 2007 to help with the busy scheduling needs of patients and families during the summer months.  She earned her Masters degree from the University of Colorado, Boulder.  Karen also works for Colorado Therapy Associates and for the Aurora Public Schools.  She regularly works at two summer camps specializing in persons using Assistive, Alternative, and Augmentative Communication systems.  During her free-time she enjoys golfing, skiing and being in Colorado’s great outdoors.

Lindsey Johnson, M.A., CCC-SLP joined the practice in August 2007 as a full time employee at our Highlands Ranch Office.  A native of Michigan, Lindsey received her undergraduate degree from the University of New Hampshire in 2003.  After completing her Masters degree in 2006 from the Michigan State University, Lindsey relocated to Denver to pursue a career as a Speech-Language Pathologist.  In her free time Lindsey enjoys skiing, playing tennis, hiking, running, painting, reading and spending time with family and friends.
