Here are some of the things our clients have been saying about
us:
"It
gives me great pleasure to relate our experience with Jeff Steffen.
Our son was adopted from Belarus at the age of 3 ½ and we
watched a miracle develop day by day. We are approaching his 6th
birthday and our son has reached, and even surpassed, his peer group.
This is after testing up to 1-½ years behind his age group
last year.
The greatest advancement has been in his speech development. He
has had to learn English, but also to develop a logical and a systematic
approach to thinking in complete sentences. He had great difficulty
going beyond simple words or phrases, connecting words, and in pronunciation.
We have worked with Jeff for over a year and have watched it all
come together in the last 2 months. We are getting complete sentences,
and thoughts, and he is even able to express his feelings.
Our thanks to Jeff Steffen as he has been instrumental in giving
our son the communication skills he so desperately needed."

Therapy
at Dr. Teter's Office:
"Our three-year-old son, Mark-- who has either Pervasive Development
Disorder or is on the autism spectrum -- came into Dr. Teter's office
nine months ago with a limited attention span, resistance to sitting
at a table, and inability to communicate. Thanks to the excellent
and compassionate guidance of Jeff Steffan, Mark now plays appropriately
with toys for sustained periods of time, sits at the little table
for session objectives, and comfortably uses the P.E.C.S. system
to express basic desires (e.g., milk, snack, favorite toys and games,
etc.). Moreover, as the therapy objectives changed over the year,
Mark learned to look meaningfully through board books, control his
occasional temper tantrums so as to return to "work" at
the table, and engage in what sometimes appears to be "imaginative
play" with characters on the "yellow school bus"
and "big red barn." The entire therapy experience has
enhanced Mark's ability to function at home with the family and
to adapt to other environments such as preschool.
Indeed, we really believe that the work accomplished in Dr. Teter's
office is one of the primary reasons that our boy was able to "advance"
so quickly from a Transitional Three Program at Douglas County to
regular preschool (i.e., where he could interact with a classroom
of three- and four-year-olds, the majority of whom do not have any
developmental problems). The therapy sessions with Jeff, in concert
with the praiseworthy work of Mark's preschool teachers, have given
us great hope that one day
Mark will communicate and interact age-appropriately with other
children!"
"My three year old son is speech delayed and he has been seeing
a speech therapist at Darrel Teter and Associates for about three
months. He has made tremendous progress in that time; his vocabulary
grows daily and he is finally able to communicate at an understandable
level. The therapists are very knowledgeable and offer creative
suggestions for things that we can do to help our son at home. The
therapists are good with children and this has made a comfortable
atmosphere for our son, enabling him to maximize the benefits of
the therapy."
